The City of Fremont and the community have developed plans to revitalize the Niles District. These plans include building a railroad themed plaza for local events, and moving the Niles Depot back to its original location. When finished, the plaza will enhance the operations of the Niles Canyon Railway by serving as a link to their Niles terminus.

The passenger depot will contain the N Scale model railroad layout and the museum. The City of Fremont has acquired the historic Southern Pacifc Niles freight depot and will also incorporate it into the plaza. It will house the HO Scale layout and the museum library.
