The Tri-City Society of Model Engineers is seeking individuals to help construct both HO and an N scale layouts. Those interested are invited to become members of the club and help with all aspects of model railroading. Experienced modelers with carpentry and electrical skills are encouraged to participate as well as enthusiastic newcomers with an eagerness to learn. If you have an interest in layout planning, benchwork, wiring, tracklaying, scenery, or operation, please contact us. While the old layouts (which are no more) were freelance modeled based loosely on a few local areas, the new layouts we are constructing are based on Niles and the surrounding communities in the Bay Area. High prototypical detail will be put into the track plans as well as surrounding scenery. Currently, research is underway on the historical prototypes found in the Niles and adjoining areas. The concept is to provide visitors to the Depot and Freight Station with a glimpse into the history of the area through the model railroads. With the Southern Pacific, the Western Pacific, the South Pacific Coast and a lot of great industries to choose from, the choices of what to model are only limited to what you might be interested in. Consider that the area had everything from quarries to brick works to packing sheds to salt works to automobile manufacturing to steel production and a whole lot more. While the focus of the new layouts will now mainly
be Southern Pacific and Western Pacific, the fate of our fictitious railroad,
The Niles Western, has not yet been decided. Will it remain independent or
merge with the SP or WP and become another fallen flag?
